The studio’s approach to this new challenge has been the same as that used in planning a product with an industrial design, thus focussing on three essential aspects: form, material and communication.
From the first meeting with Bendoni, it was clear that the aim was to represent the spirit of the award through an object which recounted “Globe Soccer”. The elements making up the award are the sphere and the curving arch.

The sphere is of polished, brushed gold and represents a ball, in other words the game of football, glittering in its own light. The arch, on which the sphere seems to roll, is made of polished steel and reflects the sphere symbolising the jury which assigns the awards to the key names in football.

The two elements, the two spirits of the award, are closely linked also by exact numerical and geometrical ratios; looking “side on” we can see that the sphere and the arc have a radius which is a multiple of 9.15 which is the radius of the centre circle on a football pitch.

The realisation of the awards has been entrusted to GDE Bertoni (a world leader) with whom we have jointly agreed the post-design engineering stages for the product.
