Unai Emery is a Spanish coach who is currently at Paris Saint-Germain, in the Ligue 1. During his career, before moving to France, he coached teams such as Valencia (2008/2012) and Spartak Moscow (2012/2013), before joining Seville in the 2013/2014 season.
During his time at Valencia he twice achieved direct qualification to the Champions League (2009/2010 – 2010/2011) by finishing third in the table. However, during the 2011/2012 season the team started to under-perform and this led to its elimination from the Champions League during the group stage. Despite reaching the semi-final of the Europa League and the Copa del Rey, he was heavily criticised and it was decided to let him go at the end of the season.
His experience at Spartak Moscow was, on the other hand, short-lived, since, owing to poor results, he was sacked just a few months after being taken on (November 2012).
In January 2013 he was then approached by Seville with which he won, for three consecutive seasons from 2013/2014 to 2015/2016, the UEFA Europa League, equalling the record number of UEFA Cup/Europa League victories held by Giovanni Trapattoni, and also becoming the first coach to win three such trophies consecutively with the same team.
In the summer of 2016 he then signed a two-year contract with Paris Saint-Germain, with which, as soon as he arrived, he immediately won the French Super Cup.
During his coaching career he also won, before coaching Valencia, two Miguel Muñoz awards when he managed Lorca (2005/2006) and Almerìa (2006/2007).
