Fernando Santos is the coach of Portugal and he led his team to win EURO 2016.
Santos became coach of the national team in September 2014, after the sacking of Paulo Bento who lost the first qualification match for EURO 2016 against Albania. Under the leadership of the Portuguese coach the team managed not only to qualify for Euro 2016, but also to win it.
Fernando Santos may be considered as the architect of another record, becoming the first coach in history to win an international tournament with Portugal.
During his career Santos has won, besides Euro 2016 with Portugal, a Portuguese championship (Porto – 1998/1999), two Portuguese Cups (Porto – 1999/2000 and 2000/2001) and two Portuguese Super Cups (Porto – 1999 and 2000). In Greece with AEK Atene he won a Greek Cup, during the 2001/2002 season. Among the individual awards we may recall 4 awards as Best coach of the year of the Greek championship won with AEK Atene in 2002 and 2005 and with PAOK Salonicco in 2009 and 2010.
